Paddock or Tall Boots??

If you have ever watched a horse show with all age groups you might notice the different kinds of footwear. It seems that the older more advanced kids have on tall boots and the younger riders have on ankle boots that are actually called paddock boots. In this week's blog I will explain what the differences are and what the requirements are for each footwear option.

Below I have a list that explains when you or your child should graduate into tall boots. If you, your child or teenager does not meet these requirements, they should stay in paddock boots and garter straps. Now some of you might not know what garter straps  are. Garter straps are two straps of leather that go just under the knee and help keep the pants from riding up. Garter straps come in both black and brown and it is important to match them to the color of your paddock boots.

  • The average age you or your child grow out of paddock boots and garter straps is around age 13.

  • The female's chest gets developed

  • Moved up to a large pony or horse

  • Above 5 feet tall

If you or your child graduate into paddock boots I strongly recommend reading my previous blog post Tall Boot 101 to help you in your search for new tall boots.
